This is my update. I share my results from last week's experiment. I tell about my homemade alternative to trying Terressentials (IMO), I also share my thoughts for future updates. Let's go!

This is a quick update...kind of. :o) I share:
  • What I'm experimenting with,
  • Why I'm doing it,
  • What I've learned so far, and
  • The difference between "raking" and "smoothing" products into my hair.

I haven't done a VLOG in a while. This one has been brewing for a couple of weeks.

I say it all...and then some...in the video. I talk about my current CG experiment, what I've enjoyed most about the method, and the weekly changes in my hair.

I'm in love....LOL!

This is Week 4 of the Curly Girl Method and I am in love with my hair and this method. I knew I was falling hard but today I was ready to admit it when my hair looks gorgeous after 2 nights of sleeping on my satin pillow case only. No bonnet. No shower cap. No doo-rag. (smile)

My hair is soft and curly still. It looks great although I know I'm pushing it. My week has been extremely busy and I haven't washed since Sunday.

4-Day Hair!!!

What's also flooring me is on Sunday I did a quick job before church. Thus, I didn't break into several sections. I used only a little gel and my hair fell into place. I thought it would only last a day or so since I did a quick job of it. But I was wrong.

I could keep going but tomorrow my hair is going to get some TLC. But, not my full regimen.

Define Your Curls???

I want to try something. I'm noticing my ends curl with water alone. Adding the conditioner make them jump for joy. Adding the gel helps seal the deal. :o)

As I run my fingers through my hair I can feel the difference in the texture. My ends are great, my roots are still slightly puffy. Thus, I am going to try something. I'm going to co-wash and define my curls.

Here's the Plan

Products:

  1. Co-Wash with Tresemme Naturals (aff).
  2. Leave-in with KimmeyTube conditioner (using Giovanni (aff) as my base).
  3. I will re-wet with my conditioner/water mix.
  4. Seal with coconut oil (aff).
  5. My styler is Eco-Styler (aff).

Technique:

  1. Co-Wash.
  2. I will apply the leave-in all over and separate my hair into about 8 or so sections.
  3. I will work with each section individually. I will apply a little more leave-in and finger detangle.
  4. Seal with coconut oil.
  5. I will add gel and evenly smooth over the section before raking through my hair with my fingers.
  6. I will add a little more gel and run my fingers through my curls, paying particular attention to the roots.

Why so Much?

I am going through these steps to see if my theory is true.

What theory?

My hair is adapting well and I think I can help my hair along by (1) washing more frequently and (2) nursing my "trouble" areas. Now, by "trouble" I don't mean trouble, trouble. However, I'd like the curly patten to run from root to tip. My understanding of this method is that once your hair reaches "maximum hydration" this will be true. That the roots will retain moisture as well as the ends.

I believe adding the product while my hair is saturated. Then seal the moisture with coconut oil.

Paying close attention to my hair in smaller sections will allow me to "train" my curls (I hope). We'll see.

I am loving this method. I think you can tell as I post pictures like crazy. People are stopping me asking "What products are you using, your hair is beautiful?"

I'm thinking..."who me"? **blink, blink**

Truth is I've never been that girl. My hair even as a child was considered the less manageable. The hair that was not "good hair" especially compared to my siblings. But I'm learning that it is much like the other heads of hair I've admired in my family...it's just different. (smile)

And who says, different is bad? Certainly not me.
